Retouch a portrait without losing its character
Retouching is most useful when the person still looks like themselves. Start with the photograph’s light and color before asking the model to alter facial detail.
Start with light
A softer shadow or more neutral white balance can improve a portrait without changing features. Keep the direction of the original light believable.
Balance the exposure and soften the side shadow. Preserve facial proportions, freckles, and natural skin texture.
Ask for specific cleanup
Name the temporary distraction you want removed. Avoid a broad request for perfect skin if you want to retain the photograph’s texture and age.
Compare at a useful size
Inspect eyes, hair edges, and skin at full size. Compare with the original in History, and download only the version you have reviewed.
